On August 3,  a representative from the U.S. embassy and AMIDEAST – Kuwait met with a group of Bahraini students, participating in the 2016-2017 Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange & Study (YES) Program.

The YES program is a program of the U.S. Department of State that provides outstanding secondary school students the opportunity to spend one academic year in the United States. Scholarship recipients live with host families, attend U.S. high schools, and participate in special enrichment activities that include community service, youth leadership training, a civics education program, and other activities that help them develop a comprehensive understanding of American culture and develop leadership skills.

Likewise, YES students serve as cultural ambassadors, representing their own rich heritage to their American host communities.  During the pre-departure orientation, students were encouraged to study hard, actively engage in the program, to immerse themselves in U.S. culture and society, and to engage with their American peers.
