Fulbright Visiting Scholars Program
3 MINUTE READ

The Fulbright Scholar Program is a consecutive three- to nine-month program in which Bahraini scholars lecture, conduct research, or pursue a combination of both at an American college or university in the United States starting in September 2017.  Bahraini Scholars residing in Bahrain and holding doctoral degrees in academic disciplines including arts and humanities, commerce and finance, science and technology, journalism and media, education, and other fields are eligible to apply for the program.

The mission of the Fulbright Scholar Program is to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and people of other countries and to provide educational exchange experiences to individuals not previously afforded such an opportunity.  Fulbright not only serves the individuals selected, but provides value for the scholar’s home institution as well. Fulbright Scholars serve as cultural ambassadors and should be prepared to reside in the United States for a consecutive three- to nine-months and to speak about their countries, cultures, and research to academic and community groups.

The Fulbright Scholar Program has provided thousands of scholars with the opportunity to establish professional contacts in their field and make long-lasting friendships with colleagues in the United States; to develop collaborative research relationships with U.S. scholars; and to enhance their scholarly publications and other contributions with research conducted in the United States.  Finally, for many scholars, the Fulbright Program offers an opportunity to pursue scholarly work without interruption.  By doing research, guest lecturing, and pursuing other scholarly interests in a completely different environment, scholars return home personally invigorated and professionally stimulated.

The award funds international airfare, accommodations, living expenses, health insurance, and incidentals.  The Fulbright Scholar Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State.
